MORAN EARNS KLA’S SUPPORT IN RACE FOR U.S. SENATE SEAT

( TOPEKA ) – The Kansas Livestock Association (KLA) has endorsed Rep. Jerry Moran in his campaign for the U.S. Senate. Wallace County rancher and farmer Mark Smith, the current association president, said KLA’s endorsement is based on Moran’s long history of advocating policies and programs that support Kansas ranchers, feeders and dairymen.

“Jerry understands the importance of the livestock business to Kansas and has led the charge to defend our industry,” said Smith. “During these dangerous times in Congress, we need his insightful leadership more than ever.”

As an example of Moran’s support, during negotiations on the 2008 Farm Bill, he helped block congressional proposals that would have dictated how beef producers can sell their cattle. Moran also has fought to further open international markets to U.S. beef. He has been a strong proponent of ending the federal estate tax and fought the “cap and trade” legislation, which studies have shown would be devastating to agriculture.

“The Kansas beef industry plays a critical role in creating local jobs and helping the Kansas economy,” said Moran. “I’m proud to have KLA’s support.”

KLA is a trade organization representing 5,500 members involved in the beef and dairy businesses on legislative, regulatory and industry issues at both the state and federal levels. The association’s work is funded through voluntary dues dollars paid by its members.
