To commemorate the 10th year of the Henry C. Gardiner Global Food Systems lecture series, there will be a half-day conference held October 7 at the Kansas State University Alumni Center. The Gardiner Global Food Systems Conference will begin at noon and conclude at 4:00 p.m., prior to the lecture being held at 7:00 p.m.
Ernie Minton, dean of the K-State College of Agriculture, and Mark Gardiner will kick off the event. Additional speakers will include former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns and Craig Gundersen, chair of the Hankamer School of Business and a professor in the department of economics at Baylor University. Johanns will discuss his efforts to advance trade, aid and food safety as agriculture secretary. Gundersen will highlight his extensive research on the causes and consequences of food insecurity.
Renowned scientist Peer Ederer will be the featured speaker for the Gardiner Lecture that evening, which is open to all. Ederer’s international company specializes in research and communicates scientific evidence about the role of animals in the global food system. His presentation will be held in K-State’s McCain Auditorium.
